Overview

Food Forest Education at Nourish Land focuses on learning through living systems. Rather than teaching food production as a set of isolated techniques, our programs explore how plants, soils, water, climate, and people interact as integrated ecosystems.

Education takes place within real gardens and demonstration sites, allowing participants to develop practical understanding alongside ecological literacy. The emphasis is on observation, long-term thinking, and systems that can be adapted across different climates and cultural contexts.

Our Approach

Our educational approach combines hands-on experience with ecological theory. Learning is grounded in place, using food forests as living classrooms where participants can observe plant behaviour, succession, and interactions over time.

Rather than prescribing fixed designs, programs encourage participants to develop the skills needed to read landscapes, understand plant roles, and make informed decisions suited to their own environments.

Programs

Discovery Day

Discovery Day introduces participants to food forest systems through guided exploration of established gardens. These sessions are designed to make complex ecological ideas accessible, using observation and direct experience rather than technical instruction.

Discovery Days are suitable for community groups, students, educators, and visitors who are new to food forests or seeking a deeper understanding of regenerative growing systems.

Food forest Propagation Programs

Delivered in collaboration with Daleys Fruit Tree Nursery, these programs focus on plant propagation, grafting, and nursery-based education. Participants gain insight into how high-quality plant material is produced and how propagation choices influence long-term orchard and food forest outcomes.

Programs draw on large-scale nursery experience alongside ecological planting principles, bridging commercial propagation with regenerative land design.

NourishLand Foundation Program

The NourishLand Foundation Program supports deeper learning pathways focused on education, outreach, and long-term capacity building. These programs are designed for educators, project leaders, land ownand organisations seeking to develop resilient food systems within their communities.

The focus is on transferable knowledge, adaptive design thinking, and the development of locally appropriate food forest models.

Who These Programs Are For

Food Forest Education programs are designed for a wide range of participants, including educators, students, community groups, growers, and organisations interested in regenerative food systems. Programs can be adapted for different experience levels and learning contexts.
